India has reported 2,503 new COVID-19 cases in a day, the lowest since May, 2020, while the active cases dipped to 36,168, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.
With the fresh cases, the total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,29,93,494.
The death toll climbed to 5,15,877 with 27 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.
The active cases comprise 0.08 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate further improved to 98.72 per cent, the ministry said.
A reduction of 1,901 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The number of cases is the lowest since May 4, 2020.
Ladakh reported two new coronavirus cases on Monday, taking the overall virus tally to 28,177, officials said.
The number of active cases in the union territory dropped to 60 with the recovery of seven patients in Leh, they said.
According to the officials, there was no COVID-related death in the region, which has so far recorded 228 fatalities linked to the pandemic since its outbreak.
Of the total fatalities, Leh district accounts for the highest 168 deaths among 22,904 cases followed by 60 deaths in Kargil which had recorded a total of 5,273 cases.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands did not record a single fresh COVID-19 case for the last five days, a health department official said on Monday.
The virus tally of the archipelago remained at 10,025.
The union territory now has only one active COVID-19 case, while 9,895 people have recovered from the disease so far, he said.

Arunachal Pradesh reported one new COVID-19 case on Monday, pushing the tally to 64,482, a senior health official said. The fresh case was reported from West Kameng district, the official said.
The COVID-19 death toll in the frontier state remained at 296 as no new fatality was reported in the past 24 hours, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.
