Pakistan beat Netherlands by six wickets at the T20 World Cup, Super 12 encounter in Perth on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Shadab Khan scalped three wickets, and Mohammad Wasim Jr picked two as Netherlands could only manage 91/9 after opting to bat first. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf picked a wicket each. Meanwhile, a bouncer from Haris Rauf forced Bas de Leede to leave the field after it hit his helmet. Logan van Beek has replaced him as a concussion substitute.
In the second half of the match, Pakistan completed the 92-run chase in 13.5 overs and remain alive in the semifinal race. The win will also add a massive boost to their run rate. However, Babar Azam’s misfortune continued as he was run out for four against Netherlands during the chase. Fakhar Zaman then stitched a small partnership with Mohammad Rizwan, before he was caught behind on 20(16). Rizwan was dismissed on 49 and Shan Masood was the final Pakistan batter to be dismissed.
Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, is happy with the overall performance of his team. Adds that bowling the right lengths was crucial on this pitch. He is happy with the execution part. Tells that winning gives you confidence but he would have liked to chase the target by losing lesser wickets.
Scott Edwards, the skipper of the Netherlands, says that batting first was the right decision as they wanted to put runs on the board and give their bowlers the chance to defend. He is disappointed with their batting. Mentions that they couldn’t get the partnerships and also failed to find enough boundaries. Praises the bowlers for trying hard
Shadab Khan is the Player of the Match. The leggie says that it was a true pitch and his plan was simple, i.e. to bowl in the line of the stumps. Adds that all the bowlers were brilliant and put pressure on the Powerplay. Smiles and tells that it’s a team game, some bowlers create pressure, and some pick wickets. He is happy that they finished the game this evening after two failed attempts.
Pakistan will face next South Africa on 3rd Nov, 1:30 PM IST.
Netherlands will face next Zimbabwe on 2nd Nov, 9:30 AM IST.
