India reported 12, 608 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative figure to 4,42,98,864. The death count increased to 5,27,206 with 72 more fatalities being added since yesterday, latest government data showed. The active cases stand at 1,01,343. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,36,70,315.
Delhi reported 1,964 new Covid case and eight deaths on Thursday at a positivity rate of 9.42 per cent, according to data shared by the health department.
Compared with yesterday’s daily case count, there has been an increase in the number of cases. On Wednesday, Delhi reported 1,652 new cases at a positivity rate of 9.92 per cent.
Puducherry witnessed a rise in the number of fresh Covid cases with 80 people testing positive, a senior official of the Department of Health said on Thursday.
The union territory on Wednesday reported 16 new coronavirus cases. The active cases were 364 which comprised nine patients undergoing treatment in hospitals including JIPMER and the remaining 355 are in home quarantine. The total death count remained at 1,967 after no new Covid-related death was reported.
Mizoram reported 153 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, 69 less than the previous day, with the tally rising to 2,35,682, a health official said. The single-day positivity rate dipped to 18.19 per cent from 21 per cent on Wednesday as the fresh cases were detected from 809 sample tests, he said. According to the official, the death count remained at 717 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported in the last 24 hours, he said. Mizoram now has 750 active cases.
Assam reported 174 new COVID-19 cases today, as per the National Health Mission (NHM). The state’s positivity rate decreased to 3.62 per cent, it said in a bulletin. Kamrup Metropolitan district, which primarily comprises Guwahati city, reported 26 fresh cases. There are 2,976 active cases in the state at present. The death count remained at 8,026 with no new deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
Jammu and Kashmir registered 419 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday, taking the infection tally to 4,75,109 in the Union Territory, officials said.
While 58 cases were reported from Jammu division, 361 cases were reported from Kashmir valley, the officials said here.
The death toll due to the virus remained unchanged at 4,779 as no new fatality linked to the pandemic was reported from the Union Territory, they said.
There are 3,327 active COVID-19 cases in the Union Territory, while the number of recoveries has reached 4,67,003, the officials said.
Meanwhile, The Union Finance Ministry contributed more than ₹ 900 crore to COVID vaccine development under ‘Mission COVID Suraskha’ resulting in India becoming a leader in vaccine production, said a top official.
