Punjab Assembly elections around the corner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend a big poll rally in the border district of Ferozepur on Wednesday. Besides the rally, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone of various development projects worth Rs 42,750 crore.
These project includes a new 27 km broad gauge railway line between Mukerian and Talwara worth Rs 410 crore. This rail link will also serve as an alternative route to Jammu and Kashmir linking the existing Jalandhar-Jammu railway line at Mukerian.
PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone of a 100-bed PGI satellite centre costing Rs 490 crore which will have ten specialties at Ferozepur. He will also lay the foundation stone of Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala medical colleges which will have 100 seats.
The foundation stone of 669 km long Delhi- Amritsar-Katra expressway costing Rs 39,500 crore is also being laid. This expressway project will halve the travel time between Delhi to Katra and Delhi to Amritsar and will connect four Sikh shrines besides Shri Vaishno Devi shrine.
The list also includes the 77 km Amritsar- Una four-lane project which is being built at a cost of Rs 1700 crore and will connect four other national highways.
PM Modi can also make some announcements to attract farmers and pilgrims. BJP’s alliance partner Punjab Lok Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh has appealed to the Union government to waive off the Kartarpur corridor visiting charges besides simplifying the visit procedure.
The Ferozepur town is also likely to witness protests as nine farmers’ unions have decided to oppose the BJP rally.
