17,135 new coronavirus infections were reported in a day, India’s infection tally rose to 4,40,67,144, while the active cases have declined to 1,37,057, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Wednesday.
The COVID-19 death toll has climbed to 5,26,477 with 47 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.
The active cases comprise 0.31 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.49 per cent, the ministry said.
A decrease of 2,735 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
Sixteen more people tested positive for coronavirus in Ladakh, pushing the infection count to 28,915 in the Union Territory, officials said on Wednesday.
All the fresh cases are from Leh, they said.
On the bright side, 21 patients were discharged from hospital after recovering from the infection, the officials said.
The COVID-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 10,458 on Wednesday as three more people tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said.
Two new patients have travel history, while one fresh infection was detected during contact tracing, it said.
The Union territory now has 41 active cases, while 10,288 people have recovered from the disease so far, including seven in the last 24 hours.
Nagaland on Wednesday reported 13 fresh Covid-19 infections, three more than the previous day, pushing the tally to 35,816, a health department official said.
Single-day Covid-19 recoveries continued to surpass fresh cases in Arunachal Pradesh as 107 people recuperated from the disease while 75 people tested positive for the infection on Wednesday, a senior health official said. The northeastern state had recorded 86 recoveries and 69 fresh infections on Tuesday. With the new cases, the Covid-19 tally in the state rose to 65,968 while, 65,271 people have recuperated thus far.

However, The German government on Wednesday presented its plans for new coronavirus measures for the coming fall and winter as it expects virus cases to go up again during the colder season. Wearing masks on planes and during long-distance travel by train and bus will be mandatory from October to early April all over Germany. Mandatory mask-wearing and the presentation of a negative coronavirus test will apply to hospitals, nursing homes and similar institutions with vulnerable people.
