India recorded a total of 7,584 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 4,32,05,106, the Health Ministry said. The daily positivity rate of 2.26% per cent was observed on Friday, while the weekly positivity rate was recorded to be 1.50 per cent, the Health Ministry said.
The active COVID-19 cases rose to 36,267 and the number of deaths due to Covid climbed to 5,24,747 with 24 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the government data
The COVID-19 tally in Nashik increased by 39 in the last 48 hours to reach 4,76,198 on Friday, while the death count remained unchanged at 8,899, an official said. So far, 4,67,228 persons have been discharged post recovery, including six during this period, leaving the district with an active caseload of 71, he said.
With the addition of 43 new cases of COVID-19, the tally of infections in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district reached 5,77,976 on Friday, an official said. The district saw a rise in infections after recording cases in single digits over the last several months. Of the latest cases, 29 were reported in Nagpur city, 11 were from rural areas and three patients were from outside the district, he said.
Odisha recorded 20 new coronavirus cases on Friday, 11 less than the previous day, with the tally rising to 12,88,596, a health department bulletin said. The death count remained at 9,126 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported in the last 24 hours, it said.
Fifty-three other coronavirus patients have died due to comorbidities so far. Odisha now has 136 active cases, and 11 more people recuperated from the disease during the period, taking the total number of recoveries to 12,79,281, the bulletin said.
Six COVID-19 patients are currently undergoing treatment in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a health bulletin said on Friday. The coronavirus tally of the Union Territory remained unchanged at 10,053 as no fresh infection was recorded in the last 24 hours, it said.
The six active patients are undergoing home quarantine, the bulletin said. The toll stood at 129, while 9,918 people have recovered from the disease in the archipelago so far.
Thane district of Maharashtra, which has been witnessing a steady rise in coronavirus cases of late, has recorded 513 new infections, an official said on Friday. These cases were reported on Thursday, taking the district’s overall caseload to 7,12,579.
On Wednesday, the district had seen 440 cases, a steep rise of more than a hundred cases as compared to the previous day. As the virus did not claim anyone’s life on Thursday, the death toll remained unchanged at 11,895, the official said, adding that the district’s mortality rate stood at 1.67 per cent.
