India Reports 16,167 New Covid Cases And 41 Deaths

India recorded 16,167 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Monday (August 8), the total recovery rate reached at around 98.50 per cent and total recoveries data reached to 4,34,99,659.

The total active cases of COVID-19 in India have increased to 1,35,510, the health ministry data showed today. Yesterday, the registered active cases were 1,34,933.

An increase of 577 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The active cases comprise 0.31 per cent of the total infections, the ministry said.

The total death toll in the country is now at 5,26,730. In India, the first death due to the COVID pandemic was reported in March 2020.

The daily positivity rate on August 8 was recorded 6.14 per cent.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 87,81,88,162 samples have been tested up to August 7 for COVID-19. Of these 2,63,419 samples were tested on Sunday.

Telangana on Monday recorded 528 new corona cases, pushing the tally to 8,26,284, according to the health department bulletin. The highest number of cases, 196, were recorded in Hyderabad district.

771 people recovered from the infection and the total number of recoveries till date is 8,16,506. No fresh fatality occurred due to the infectious disease and the death toll continued to be 4,111.

West Bengal’s Covid caseload rose to 20,99,433 on Monday as 377 more people tested positive for the infection, the health department bulletin said. With 5 deaths on Monday, death toll climbed to 21,400, it said.

The state now has 7,302 active COVID-19 cases. At least 917 more people recovered from the disease, taking the total number of recoveries to 20,70,731, the bulletin said.

Madhya Pradesh on Monday reported 169 COVID-19 cases, which took the tally to 10,51,447, while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,762, an official said. There were 175 recoveries recorded during the day to reach 10,39,336, leaving the state with an active caseload of 1,349, he said.

The positivity rate was 2.4 per cent, the official added.

Maharashtra on Monday reported 1,005 corona cases and four deaths, which took the case tally in the state to 80,60,737 and the death toll to 1,48,143, a health department official said. The addition to the tally was a drop from the 1,812 cases recorded on Sunday, though the fatalities had risen to four from one, he said.

The recovery of 1,044 people in the last 24 hours took the overall number of people discharged to 79,00,626, leaving the state with an active caseload of 11,968.

The recovery rate stood at 98.01 per cent and the fatality rate stood at 1.83 per cent.

Mumbai on Monday recorded 407 new cases of coronavirus and one death due to the infection, raising the tally to 11,27,954 and toll to 19,660, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. At least 163 patients recovered from the infection during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 11,05,317, the official said.

The recovery rate in the city stands at 98 per cent, while growth rate of cases between August 1 and 7 was 0.035 per cent and the doubling rate was 2,001 days, the bulletin stated.

Union Territory of Ladakh has logged 21 new cases of Coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the overall case tally to 29,004, officials said on Monday. A total of 228 people have succumbed to Covid in Ladakh.

The officials said the number of active COVID-19 cases has gone down to 113 in Ladakh- 103 from Leh and 10 from Kargil. The total number of recoveries in the union territory stands at 28,663, the officials added.

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 452 new Covid cases on Monday, raising the tally to 4,70,201, officials said.
94 cases were reported from the Jammu division, while 358 cases were reported from the Kashmir Valley, they said.

The death toll stands at 4,776 with no fatality in the past 24 hours, the officials said.

There are 5,045 active cases in the Union territory, while the number of recoveries has reached 4,60,380.

Himachal Pradesh recorded 754 new COVID-19 infections on Monday pushing the state’s case tally to 3,05,383, officials said. With three people succumbing to the disease, the death toll in the state rose to 4,157.

The tally of active COVID-19 cases in the state has now stood at 4,919.

On Monday, 5,298 samples were taken for testing and 754 of them have been tested positive for Covid while as many as 838 people have recuperated from the disease taking the number of recoveries to 2,96,287, they said.

Single-day recoveries continued to surpass new Covid-19 cases in Arunachal Pradesh with nine people testing positive for the infection, while 35 people recovered from the disease on Monday, a senior health official said. The northeastern state logged 32 new infections and 51 recoveries on Sunday.

With the new infections, the state’s caseload rose to 66,205.

Arunachal Pradesh currently has 322 active cases, while 65,587 people have recuperated from the disease thus far.

Odisha’s COVID-19 tally rose to 13,19,527 on Monday as 652 more people, including 132 children, tested positive for the infection, while one more fatality pushed the toll to 9,149, a bulletin by the health department said.

Odisha now has 5,798 active cases, of which 1,357 are in Sundargarh. As many as 704 more people were cured of the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the recoveries to 13,04,527.

Mizoram reported 64 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday, 84 less than the previous day, as the tally rose to 2,34,144, a health department official said. The death toll remained unchanged at 711, he said.

The northeastern state now has 1,239 active cases, while 2,32,194 people have recovered from the disease so far. Mizoram’s daily positivity rate stood at 26.34 per cent.

Puducherry witnessed a further decline in fresh COVID-19 cases with 23 people infected by the virus on Monday. Of the Union Territory’s four regions, Karaikal registered the maximum with 12 cases followed by Puducherry with eight, and Yanam three.

Mahe, an enclave of Puducherry in Kerala, did not report any fresh case, Director of Health G Sriramulu said in a press release. The UT had reported 59 cases on Sunday.

Mr Sriramulu said the 23 fresh cases surfaced during examination of 1,154 samples in the last 24 hours.

Assam reported 39 more COVID-19 cases, raising the tally on Monday to 7,41,541, according to a bulletin by National Health Mission (NHM). No new death was reported due to the disease in the last three days with the toll remaining unchanged at 6,673, the bulletin said.

Another 1,347 COVID-19 patients have died due to other reasons since April, 2020.

Kamrup Metro recorded eight new cases, followed by six in Dibrugarh, five each in Cachar and Kamrup Rural and four in Sivasagar. Assam currently has 4,006 active cases As many as 28,582,444 samples have been tested in the state so far.
