India’s boxing sensation, Mary Kom announced the date of the North East Women’s Football League that is going to commence on June 5th in Imphal, the capital city of Manipur. The iron lady also unveiled the trophy amidst a high-octane environment at New Delhi.
Anantpura Sports Event Pvt. Ltd. will organise the North East Women’s Football League, and it will be played under the aegis of the All Manipur Football Association.
The other notable personalities present at the event were Mr. Ratan Kumar Singh (President All Manipur Football Association), Mr. L Jyotirmay Roy (Secretary, AMFA and Director of Anantpura Sports), M. Anas Pathan (Tournament Coordinator), and Kirti Mishra (Mrs. India Worldwide).
Commenting on the upcoming league, Mary Kom said, “The league is going to be a game-changer in North East, where despite so many challenges and constraints, women have immense potential to prove themselves in sports. The only thing required is enough contribution and support from governments as well as business houses.”
“Though I am a boxer, I am interested in other sports as well, and I expect the same from the women of North East. They should come forward and exhibit their mettle and grit in the sports arena. I believe, if the opportunity is given, young women from northeastern states can earn high laurel for Indian in the international sports events,” she added.
While addressing the media, Mr. Amin Pathan, Chairman of ASEPL, said, “The motto of this event is to promote women empowerment and encourage more youngsters, especially women, to participate and excel in sports. North East has gifted India many sports stars in the past, and Mary Kom is one of them. It’s time to replicate this sportsmanship and calibre by the women of northeastern states in football, the world’s most popular sports, too.”
