Manipur Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nongthombam Biren Singh has won from his home constituency Heingang in East Imphal district, Manipur, by 18271 votes.
Biren Singh polled 24814 votes, while his nearest rival Pangeijam Saratchandra Singh polled 6543 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The Congress Party nominated Pangeijam Saratchandra Singh to run against Manipur’s Chief Minister in the 2022 assembly elections in Manipur.
“We will take time to stake a claim to form a government, let the results be out. Our national leaders will decide on CM face, we will focus on PM Modi’s mantra of inclusive development,” said Manipur CM N Biren Singh on assembly elections result.
Meanwhile, Former Manipur CM Okram Ibobi Singh of Congress defeats the nearest BJP rival, L Basanta Singh, by 2,543 votes in the Thoubal seat.
