India recorded 14,830 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 36 deaths due to the infection in the past 24 hours. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday (July 26), the country saw a total of 18,159 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery rate at around 98.47 per cent and total recoveries data reached to 4,32,46,829.
The total active cases of COVID-19 in India have declined to 1,47,512, the health ministry data showed today. Yesterday, the registered active cases were 1,50,877.
A decrease of 3,365 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The active cases comprise 0.34 per cent of the total infections, the ministry said.
The total death toll in the country is now at 5,26,110. In India, the first death due to the COVID pandemic was reported in March 2020.
The daily positivity rate on July 26 was recorded 3.48 per cent.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 87,31,85,917 samples have been tested up to July 25 for COVID-19. Of these 4,26,102 samples were tested on Monday.
Delhi on Monday logged 463 fresh coronavirus cases and two fatalities due to the disease as the positivity rate climbed to 8.18 per cent, highest in over a month, according to city health department data.
This is the third consecutive day the positivity rate has remained above 5 per cent in the city. On June 20, 10.1 per cent of the total samples tested had turned out Covid positive. With this, the national capital’s COVID-19 infection tally climbed to 19,48,955 and the death toll to 26,303, the latest bulletin stated.
The number of active cases of the disease in Delhi now stands at 2,548 down from 2,696 the previous day. As many as 1,939 COVID-19 patients are under home isolation, the bulletin showed. The fresh cases were detected out of 5,657 COVID-19 tests conducted the previous day.
On Sunday, Delhi logged 729 coronavirus cases with a positivity rate of 5.57 per cent and two fatalities.
The union territory of Puducherry logged 99 new coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours pushing the overall tally to 1,70,278, a senior official of the Health Department said today. The Puducherry region alone accounted for 70 of the fresh cases while Karaikal added 22 and Yanam reported seven infections, Director of Health G Sriramulu said in a release.
The Mahe region, an enclave of Puducherry in Kerala, did not report any new case. The Health department Director said the new cases were identified following the examination of 1,841 samples in the last 24 hours ending 10 AM on Tuesday.
The number of active cases stood at 1,076 which comprised 17 patients in hospitals and the remaining 1,059 in home quarantine, he added. Sriramulu said as many as 254 patients recovered during the last 24 hours and the overall recoveries were 1,67,237. He said there were no fresh fatalities and death count remained at 1,965.
The Health Department has so far examined 23,39,899 samples and found 19,79,357 out of them to be negative. The test positivity rate was 5.38 per cent while the fatality and recovery rates were 1.15 per cent and 98.21 per cent respectively.
The Health Department has so far administered 17,97,380 doses which comprised 9,77,207 first doses, 7,54,243 second doses and 65,930 booster doses.
Assam reported 760 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 7,35,621, according to the National Health Mission (NHM) bulletin.
The 760 new cases were detected out of 8,499 samples tested on Monday, with the positivity rate declining to 8.94 per cent as against the previous day’s 10.29 per cent. The total number of active cases in the state has increased to 5,605 as against the previous day’s 5,527.
The new cases were reported from Dibrugarh (64), Goalpara (57), Baksa (51), Dhemaji (47) and Biswanath (42), it said. There were no deaths reported in the state due to COVID during the last 24 hours, according to the bulletin.
The death count remained at 6,667 while 1,347 COVID-19 positive patients have died due to other reasons since April, 2020. A total of 7,22,002 patients have recovered from COVID-19 so far, including 682 on Monday.
The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state is now 98 per cent. A total of 2,84,94,264 samples have been tested so far in the state, according to the bulletin.
Altogether 4,80,33,830 doses of vaccines, including 2,46,10,351 first doses, 2,16,73,915 second doses and 17,49,564 precaution doses have been administered so far, according to the bulletin.
Mizoram reported 197 new COVID-19 cases today, 10 more than the previous day, pushing the tally to 2,31,911, an official said.
The fresh cases were reported from 10 districts with Aizawl registering the highest at 97, followed by Lunglei (39) and Saitual (14), he said. The single-day positivity rate dipped to 25.29 per cent from 57.14 per cent the previous day, he said.
The COVID-19 death count in the state remained at 708 as no new fatality was reported in the last 24 hours.
Mizoram currently has 914 active COVID-19 cases while 2,30,289 people have recovered from the infection, including 187 on Monday. The COVID-19 recovery rate now is 99.30 per cent and the death rate is 0.30 per cent. The state has tested more than 19.49 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 779 on Monday.
A total of 16,56,899 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 8,69,711 first doses, 7,25,906 second doses and 61,282 precaution doses have been administered so far till Monday, according to the state health department.
Kerala is continuing to strictly follow all COVID-19 protocols and the reporting of monkeypox has not led to any slack in the preventive measures against the pandemic, state Health Minister Veena George said on Monday.
Maharashtra recorded a 172 per cent hike in Covid cases after it logged 2,135 fresh infections on Tuesday. The health department said that the state reported 12 deaths due to the infection taking the toll to 1,48,080. Meanwhile, the active tally stands at 80,37,181cases.
Maharashtra on Monday had logged 785 Covid cases and six fatalities. The case positivity rate in the state stands at 5.77 per cent. Out of the 12 fatalities, five had occurred this week while seven were reported in the last 48 hours.
Meanwhile, More than 14 million children in the US have tested positive for Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic, according to the latest report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children’s Hospital Association.
More than 92,000 child Covid-19 cases were reported for the week ending July 21, the second consecutive weekly increase of reported cases, according to the report.
More than 311,000 child Covid-19 cases have been added in the past four weeks. Nearly 6.1 million reported cases have been added in 2022, the media reported.
There is an urgent need to collect more age-specific data to assess the severity of illness related to new variants as well as potential longer-term effects, said the AAP.
“It is important to recognise there are immediate effects of the pandemic on children’s health, but importantly we need to identify and address the long-lasting impact on the physical, mental, and social well-being of this generation of children and youth,” the AAP added.
