India has recorded 8,586 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of Covid cases to 4,43,57,546. According to the Union Health Ministry, the country also recorded 48 deaths due to Covid, bringing the total number of fatalities to 5,27,416.
The active cases comprise 0.22 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 98.59 per cent, the ministry said.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.15 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 3.59 per cent, the ministry said.
Delhi on Tuesday recorded an over 50 per cent rise in daily Covid cases to 959 while nine people died due to the viral disease, according to data shared by the city health department.
However, the test positivity rate declined to 6.14 per cent, as the fresh cases came out of 15,631 tests conducted the previous day, the department said in its latest bulletin.
With the fresh cases and fatalities, Delhi’s infection tally increased to 19,95,407 and the total death count to 26,436, it said.
On Monday, Delhi had reported 625 fresh Covid cases and seven deaths, while the positivity rate stood at 9.27 per cent.
Telangana on Tuesday recorded 376 new Covid cases, taking the overall caseload to 8,32,595.
Hyderabad district saw the highest number of cases with 164.
A health department bulletin said 406 people recuperated from the infection and the cumulative number of recoveries till date was 8,25,762.
The recovery rate stood at 99.18 per cent.
No fresh fatality occurred due to the infectious disease and the total death count continued to be 4,111.
Gujarat on Tuesday reported 294 fresh Covid cases and 1 death, raising its tally of confirmed cases to 12,68,243 and fatalities to 11,000, an official from the state health department said.
With 404 patients getting discharged, the number of recoveries rose to 12,55,225, he said.
The single casualty of the day was reported from Ahmedabad, he said.
The state currently has 2,018 active cases, with 19 patients in critical condition, the official said.
Tamil Nadu continued to maintain a downward graph in Covid cases and on Tuesday, the state saw 560 fresh infections against 591, a day ago.
The overall tally mounted to 35,64,473.
A lone passenger who returned by road from Bihar was among 560 people who tested positive, a bulletin from the State health department said.
The active cases declined to 5,732 from 5,842 on Monday.
There were no deaths today also and the total count remained at 38,033.
Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 1,910 new Covid cases, an increase of 727 from a day ago, while seven more patients died due to the infection and the active tally crossed the 12,000-mark in the state, said the health department.
With these additions, the tally of Covid cases in Maharashtra jumped to 80,87,476, while the total death count increased to 1,48,203, said the department in a bulletin.
A day before, the state had reported 1,183 coronavirus cases and one death linked to the infection.
As per the bulletin, of the total new cases, the highest 1,355 were from the Mumbai administrative circle, followed by Pune (199), Nagpur (86), Nashik (60), Kolhapur (55), Akola (23), Latur (20) and Aurangabad (12) circles.
The Mumbai circle recorded three coronavirus-related deaths in the last 24 hours, the Kolhapur circle two and Nashik and Nagpur circles one each, said the bulletin.
Ladakh has reported seven new cases of coronavirus, taking the infection tally to 29,158, officials said today.
Ten patients, including eight from Leh and two from Kargil, were cured and discharged from hospitals, they said.
With this, the total recoveries stand at 28,858, they said.
Of the new cases, six were reported from Leh and one from Kargil, officials said.
So far, 229 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in Ladakh. Of these, 169 deaths were reported from Leh and 60 from Kargil, according to the officials.
The number of active COVID-19 cases has gone up to 71 in Ladakh — 64 from Leh and 7 from Kargil.
29,25,342 Covid vaccine doses administered in last 24 hours
210.31 crore total vaccine doses (94.02 crore second dose and 14.07 crore booster dose) have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
