Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday reached the ED office in the national capital and faced questioning by the central agency on the second consecutive day. Notably, the Congress leader on Monday was questioned for over 10 hours by the ED in connection with an alleged money laundering case related to the National Herald Newspaper. Rahul Gandhi reached the ED office at around 11 am today and was deposed shortly after.
Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala has been detained by the Delhi police for protests on day two of Rahul Gandhi’s appearance before the ED in connection with the National Herald case.
Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot spoke on Section 144 imposed by the Delhi police in several areas in view of the protests on day two of Rahul Gandhi’s appearance before the ED and said ‘there’s immense pressure on Delhi Police by the government.’ “No one can imagine the pressure from the government on Delhi Police. We can manage with Sec 144, but you can’t stop us from coming into the AICC office. The situation in the country is very serious. People coming on roads on Ram Navami & Friday namaz,” Ashok Gehlot said.
After Congress leader Randeep Surjewala, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel was also detained by Delhi Police for protests on day two of party leader Rahul Gandhi’s appearance before the ED.”Our protest will continue. What happened to ED cases against BJP leaders Himanta Biswa Sarma & Narayan Rane?… I’ve been detained,” Bhupesh Baghel said.
As Congress continued protests against the ED probe on Rahul Gandhi on day two of the party leader’s appearance before the central agency, senior Congress leaders KC Venugopal, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Gaurav Gogoi, Deepender Singh Hooda, Ranjeet Ranjan, Imran Pratapgarhi amongst others were taken into police custody. They were taken to Badarpur police station, Delhi.
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Tuesday noted that the party is protesting against the misuse of law over the ED summons to Rahul Gandhi in connection with the National Herald case. The Congress leader further alleged that the ‘ED is not following the law.’ “We’re protesting against misuse of law, if ED follows the law, we’ve no problem. But ED is not following the law… We’re asking what’s the scheduled offence? There’s no answer. Which police agency has registered an FIR? No answer; no copy of FIR,” P Chidambaram said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police on Tuesday issued a fresh advisory for commuters keeping in mind the protests organised by the Congress party over ED’s summon to Rahul Gandhi, who is set to appear before the central agency again today. Delhi traffic police noted that ‘inwards movement of buses will be restricted in New Delhi beyond Gol Dak Khana Junction, Patel Chowk, Windsor Place, Teen Murti Chowk, Prithviraj Road.’Commuters have been advised to avoid Motilal Nehru Marg, Akbar Road, Janpath, Gol Methi junction, Tughlak Road Junction, Claridges Junction, Q point Junction, Sunehri Masjid Junction, Maulana Azad Road Junction and Man Singh Road between 7 am and 12 pm. Due to special traffic arrangements, commuters have been further asked to avoid SP Marg, Dhaula Kuan Flyover and Gurgaon road between 10:45 am and 11:15 am.
