India reported 20,557 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s Covid tally to 4,38,03,619, while the active cases increased to 1,45,654, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
The death count climbed to 5,25,825 with 40 new fatalities due to Covid in the last 24 hours.
The active cases comprise 0.33 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.47 per cent, the ministry said.
Jammu and Kashmir continued to see substantial rise in new Covid cases as 434 fresh infections were reported on Wednesday, while one more person died due to the viral disease, officials said.
Karnataka on Wednesday reported 1,478 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the total infections to 39,90,057, the State Health Department said.
Meghalaya government on Wednesday sounded an alert COVID-19 as cases of the infection are on the rise and asked all citizens to wear masks and maintain social distance in public places, officials said.
Puducherry confirmed 212 fresh cases of coronavirus today raising the overall caseload to 1,69,353.
The new cases surfaced during examination of 2,494 samples. While Puducherry region alone accounted for 176 cases, Karaikal registered 35, and Yanam had only one case.
Mahe an enclave of Puducherry in Kerala did not post any fresh case.
Director of Health G.Sriramulu said in a bulletin that 156 patients recovered during last twenty-four hours and the overall recoveries stood at 1,66,114.
The test positivity rate was 8.50 percent while fatality and recovery rates were 1.16 percent and 98.09 percent respectively.
Sriramulu noted that there was no fresh fatality during last twenty-four hours and count remained 1,963.
The Health Department has examined so far 23,27,780 samples and has found 19,68,714 to be negative.
The Health Department has administered so far 17,68,679 doses which comprised 9,75,516 first doses, 7,48,304 second doses and 44,859 booster doses.
Mr Sriramulu said the active cases were 1,276 which comprised 25 patients undergoing treatment in hospitals and the remaining 1,207 patients were in home quarantine.
Mizoram reported 140 new COVID-19 cases today, taking the tally to 2,31,066 a health department official said.
The state had reported 280 cases on Tuesday.
The COVID-19 death count remained at 706 as no fresh fatality was reported, he said.
Aizawl district reported 75 new COVID-19 cases, followed by Lunglei (15) and Mamit (14), he said.
The single-day positivity rate increased to 29.85 per cent from 27.72 per cent on the previous day.
Mizoram now has 885 active COVID-19 cases, while 2,29,475 people have recovered from the infection.
The COVID-19 recovery rate now is 99.31 per cent.
More than 19.46 lakh samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, including 469 samples on Tuesday.
Altogether 16,48,390 doses of vaccines, including 8,68,261 first doses, 7,24,778 second doses and 5,53,51 precaution doses have been administered so far till Tuesday, according to the state health department.
Arunachal Pradesh reported 54 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, two less than the previous day, pushing the tally to 65,034, a senior health official said.
The COVID-19 death count remained unchanged at 296, with no new fatality recorded in the past 24 hours, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.
Arunachal Pradesh, which remained virus-free for the last couple of months, had been witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases since July 1, much like some other parts of the country, the SSO said.
The Capital Complex Region reported 25 new cases, followed by five in Upper Siang, four in West Kameng, three each in Papum Pare, Kamle, Lohit, Lower Siang, Namsai and Lower Subansiri districts respectively. East Siang district also reported two new cases.
The state currently has 257 active COVID-19 cases, while 64,481 people have recuperated thus far including, 45 on Tuesday, the official said.
The COVID-19 recovery rate now is 99.15 per cent, while the active ratio is 0.39 per cent, Dr Jampa said.
The Capital Complex Region comprising, Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, has the highest number of active cases at 74, followed by Namsai (39), Lohit (37), East Siang (16) and West Kameng with 13 cases.
A total of 12,78,983 samples have been tested for Coronavirus in the state thus far, including 229 on Tuesday, Jampa added.
So far over 17.75 lakh people have been inoculated with Coronavirus vaccines in the state, State Immunisation Officer (SIO) Dr Dimong Padung informed.
The Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands logged 10 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 10,340, a health department official said today.
The archipelago now has 59 active COVID-19 cases, while 10,152 people have recuperated from the disease so far, the official said.
The COVID-19 death count remained at 129 as no fresh fatality was reported in the last 24 hours, he said.
A total of 7,61,246 samples have so far been tested for coronavirus and the cumulative test positivity rate is 1.36 per cent.
Given the emergence of COVID-19 variants with variable transmissibility and other public health implications, the Union health ministry is closely following the Covid trajectory globally and in the country, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
