13 years since November 26, 2008, terror attacks in Mumbai, carried out by 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in the country’s financial capital. The terrorists targeted various crowded locations across the city, including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Hotel Trident, Nariman House, Leopold Cafe, Cama Hospital, among others.
A total of 166 people, including security personnel, lost their lives, while nine of the terrorists were gunned down by the National Security Guard (NSG) and Mumbai Police. Ajmal Kasab, the only terrorist captured alive, was convicted and sentenced to death. Kasab was hanged on November 21, 2012, five days before the fourth anniversary of the attacks, which lasted for four days.
President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday said the nation will always be grateful for the bravery and sacrifice of the security forces who laid down their lives in the line of duty during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks 13 years back.
“My heartfelt tributes to the martyrs and homage to the victims of the 26/11 #MumbaiTerrorAttacks,” he tweeted.
Business tycoons Ratan Tata and Anand Mahindra posted heartening posts on the 13th anniversary of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. They also paid their homages to those who lost their lives in the deadly strikes.
“The hurt we endured 13 years ago today, can never be undone. We should however continue to let the memory of the attacks, which were meant to break us, become the source of our strength as we honour those we lost,” Ratan Tata wrote while sharing a post on Instagram.
Anand Mahindra took to Twitter to share his post. “We take our daily lives and routines for granted. May we never forget that a virus can turn all that upside down: The virus of hatred and terrorism. Remember our true heroes,”
Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor and Nagma among others took to their social media accounts to remember the Bravehearts and others who lost their lives in the terror attacks.
Akshay Kumar tweeted, “It’s been 13 years since the horrific #MumbaiTerrorAttack. Remembering all those who lost their lives and loved ones. My heartfelt tribute to all the Bravehearts who sacrificed their lives safeguarding our city.”
Anil Kapoor wrote on Twitter, “13 years later, we haven’t forgotten the martyrs who saved lives by sacrificing their own in the 26/11 attacks…in their memory, let’s vow to be better than terror.”
Former actor and politician Nagma shared on Twitter, “Today being the 26/11 we salute the martyr’s of the #MumbaiTerrorAttacks on the 13th anniversary they gave up their lives to protect lives of the citizens in mumbai and our brave-hearts fought the terrorist . We salute their valour.”
