Sensex Closes 157 Points Higher, Nifty Ends Above 17500

Indian equities managed to close higher for the third straight session on Thursday, after moving gains and losses through the day, with the benchmark Nifty ending above 17,500.

The Sensex rose 157.45 points or 0.27% to end the day at 58,807.13, and the Nifty was up 47 points or 0.27% at 17,516.80.

ITC, L&T, Asian Paints, UPL and Reliance Industries were among the top gainers on Nifty, while HDFC Bank, Titan Company, Nestle India, NTPC and Power Grid were the worst hit.

Barring bank and realty, all other sectoral indices ended in the green, with FMCG, oil & gas and capital goods indices rising a percent each. BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices also ended higher.
